Since 2001, Peter Ellenstein has been the artistic director of the William Inge Center for the Arts in Independence, Kan., home of the William Inge Theatre Festival. For seven years he was producing director of the Los Angeles Repertory Company where he directed the acclaimed Los Angeles Premiere of Sondheim and Weidman´s Assassins among many other productions. Ellenstein has worked in theatre across the country from Los Angeles to New York, San Diego to Minnesota and Florida to Alaska. He has worked as a consultant with the National Endowment for the Arts, California Arts Council, Kansas Arts Commission and Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation. He served on the governing counsel of the Association of Theatre for Higher Education (ATHE) and is a former board member of Los Angeles Stage Alliance and the Southern California Arts Coalition.
Ellenstein has taught theatre classes for the past 25 years and gives workshops for students and professionals regularly throughout the country. As an actor, he has appeared in dozens of professional stage productions and had numerous appearances on film, television and radio. He is a proud member of Actors Equity Association, Screen Actors Guild and Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers. His father is actor/director Robert Ellenstein, and his brother David is the artistic director of North Coast Repertory in Southern California. Ellenstein holds an M.F.A. in Theatre from Minnesota State University–Mankato.
