Romulus is the author of several novels, short stories, and five anthologies of plays, including The
Sorrows of Frederick, Holy Ghosts, Childe Byron, Heathen Valley,
"2", an adaptation of Ernest L. Gaines´s novel A Lesson Before Dying,
and an adaptation of Tim O´Brien´s novel Going After Cacciato. He has won two Obie
awards (one for sustained excellence in playwriting), two National Critics Awards, three DramaLogue Awards,
and many fellowships, including grants from the Guggenheim and Rockefeller Foundations. Romulus is a
member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Ensemble Studio Theatre, and the Fellowship of
Southern Writers. He is the founding playwright of Signature Theatre. Romulus was inducted into the
American Academy of Arts and Letters, which gave him both its Academy Award in Literature and its Award
of Merit Medal for Drama. He has taught at many universities including Columbia, Princeton, the University
of Pennsylvania, and the Actors Studio Drama School at New School University.
