Sarah Schmitz has a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre from the University of
Minnesota–Duluth (UMD). After being a recipient of an Undergraduate Research
Opportunities Program Grant to write a full-length play, she was lucky enough to
take workshops with Melanie Marnich and Kevin Kling when UMD produced their
plays, not to mention constantly being able to go directly to her wonderful mentor,
Tom Isbell. Her first full-length dramedy, War in Quarters, was performed
at UMD in the fall of 2005. Yellow, a ten-minute comedy, was awarded second
place at the 2007 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region V
Festival. With her major being in performance, most of Schmitz´s time in college
was concentrated on that. Credits include Bianca/Lois Lane in Kiss Me Kate, Julie
in Miss Julie, Columbia in The Rocky Picture Horror Show, Meredith in Five Women
Wearing the Same Dress, Helena in A Midsummer Night´s Dream and Sarah in the
original production of The Neighborhood. She believes the best way she can find how
to write a character is to become a character herself; she´s an actor in order to know
how to write for one.
