Susann Suprenant has served as Education Manger for Omaha Performing Arts since September 2004, developing
educational programs, coordinating touring artist residencies, and designing performing arts community
involvement partnerships. She was previously a faculty member at University of Nebraska at Omaha where
she served as Assistant Professor of Theatre for four years. At UNO, Dr. Suprenant was Head of Directing,
served as chair of the Mid-America Theatre Conference Directing Symposium 2003 and 2004, and directed for
the New Play Development Program for the international Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE)
in 2002 and 2003. In addition to directing and training beginning directors, Dr. Suprenant taught English
and Drama at the secondary level for nine years and led at-risk youth community outreach programs. At the
university-level, she has led teacher training programs and taught a variety of courses including voice
and movement for actors as well as screenwriting, Shakespeare, theatre history and graduate seminars in
dramatic theory and criticism. She continues to work as a director and dramaturg for select Omaha area p
roductions and is a founding member of The Blue Barn´s Witching Hour. She is currently helping to organize
the first annual Great Plains Theatre Conference 2006 to recognize outstanding American playwrights and
foster the work of new playwrights.
Dr. Suprenant holds a B.A. in Communications from San Francisco State University, an M.A. in English from University of Nevada, Reno and a Ph.D. in Theatre from University of Oregon.
