Academic Affairs message

A message from Dave Ho

It's been my pleasure to work at MCC for the past 20 years. I was able to be involved in a myriad of interesting and exciting activities, and I will be forever grateful for the opportunities afforded to me.

I leave knowing that an able replacement will become the new vice president for Academic Affairs. Kathleen Curphy, Ph.D., will be joining us prior to Fall opening. When you get a chance, please give her a warm MCC welcome.

With more than 20 years of progressive experience as a two-year college administrator (11 years at the senior level), Curphy has served as provost, chief academic officer and vice president. She brings an appreciation for and understanding of both liberal arts and career and technical education, having supervised academics for more than 15 years.

Curphy graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a master’s in Student Personnel Services. She earned an Education Specialist Degree in Human Services/Industrial Arts and Technology from the University of Central Missouri and a doctorate in higher education leadership from Capella University.

Throughout her career, Curphy has been instrumental in developing and building programs in several community and technical colleges and fostering community, business and faculty partnerships. She is looking forward to being part of an innovative institution that has a strong impact in the community as well as being closer to family and friends who reside in the Midwest.

As for me, I will become a retired baby boomer—a euphemism for an older person! My wife and I will be staying in the area, so we'll probably see you at the mall or the grocery store. Best of luck to all of you!
