Military student recognition luncheon

The Office of Military and Veteran Support Services hosted a military student recognition luncheon on Sunday, Jan. 19 at the South Omaha Campus, Industrial Training Center.

 

This event entitled Serving Those Who Have Served honored those MCC veteran students and staff who served the country with dedication and outstanding service. Special thanks to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. who provided the funding and coordinated the luncheon portion of this event.

 

The special guest and keynote for this event was Ret. Col. Loring Harkey, U.S. Air Force, who encouraged the MCC veteran students to continue to use education to impact change within themselves and their families as well as the community. The event also featured various community military partners that included Lutheran Family Services/At Ease program, U.S. Department of Labor/Veteran Services and American Legion Post 1.

 

Bobby Loud, director, awarded the Veteran Service Awardsto four veteran work-study students who assist other veteran students within MCC’s military support center as well as providing leadership to the Student Veterans of America chapter. The Community Veteran Service Award was presented to Tom York and the Victory Apartment Management group who provide affordable housing to veterans who are transitioning from homelessness.
