Tutoring is fundamental to college success.
At Metropolitan Community College, we provide tutoring to enhance student learning,
to increase student confidence and to assist the student to achieve academic excellence.
Tutoring complements classroom learning and provides academic support to students.
Assistance is available through the Academic Resource Center and Math Center on a drop-in basis. Appointments for one-on-one tutoring may be scheduled through a Tutor Services Assistant. To be eligible, you must be enrolled in a credit course at MCC for which assistance is requested.
Eligibility requirements to Receive Tutor assistance
- Currently enrolled in the credit course at MCC.
- Must have completed the assessment/COMPASS and follow the course recommendation - Math, Science, English and reading courses only
- Must have completed all course prerequisites
- Instructors will be contact and attendance verified
- Tutoring is not available for students in English-as-a-Second-Language courses, non-credit classes and ABE/GED classes.
Qualifications to provide tutor assistance:
- Have an overall GPA of 3.2 or better.
- Received a “B” or better in the subject area of tutorial interest.
- Secure two (2) written recommendations.
- If a current student, then they must be academic faculty recommendations.

Additional qualifications for individuals NOT currently a student at Metro Community College. These qualifications can be in lieu of the above mentioned.
- Bachelor or Master degree
- Teaching or educational experience preferred
- Transcripts to document course work in area of tutorial interest
- Secure two (2) written recommendations.
Candidates will be required to provide documentation proving successful course completion or competency in ANY courses they wish to tutor.
