Brandon Thomas Culinary Arts Memorial Scholarship

Brandon Michael Thomas
May 8, 1989 - July 12, 2010

Brandon was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and graduated from Millard North High School. He had a lively sense of humor and made people laugh with his quick remarks. He had a zest for life whether he was snowboarding in Colorado, working in a restaurant kitchen or hanging out with friends. Brandon had a passion for food from the time he was a child. For many years he was the head cook for the family’s annual Thanksgiving dinners. When Brandon was first injured, the family set up a page on the caringbridge.org web site, which had a total of 6,423 visits and 275 messages from friends. This is a tribute to the love and admiration for Brandon and the sorrow felt at his passing. Brandon was an organ donor. His generosity will help others live, but his spirit will be with us forever.

This is a tribute that David Kinney, one of his classmates, posted on the caringbridge.org website:

"Upon graduation at MCC you are given a sash consisting of cheesecloth, butchers twine, a tasting spoon and a sprig of sage. Each representing something different but overall symbolizing a milestone, where you leave one place and begin a life in another. Prior to graduation you must complete a number of classes, one of which is 2999, where you must cook a 4 course menu for 8 guests in 30 minutes. By yourself it is very tough, but with help, good help, it becomes much easier. I called Brandon asking if he could help, and without pause he said yes. Today at the cemetery, I placed the sash given to me with Brandon. It is because of his selfless help that I was able to graduate. My thoughts and prayers are with your family, Brandon, and watch over me when I need help, though I know you will already be there."

  • Completed 9 or more credit hours
