First-Time MCC Student Scholarships

Prospective students can apply for all available scholarships
with one universal application.

graduating in December 2023 or May 2024

The early awarding deadline for graduating high school senior scholarships is December 1, 2023.
The deadline for all graduating high school senior scholarships is March 1, 2024.

NEW! Current Nebraska High School students, grades 9 - 12, are automatically eligible to take credit classes at no tuition cost.
Students will be responsible for tools, textbooks, and any other associated course fees.
Tuition for dual enrolled students will be paid for by federal funding, directed by the State and CCPE.

Scholarship Opportunities for First-Time Students

Metropolitan Community College, in conjunction with the generosity of donors through the MCC Foundation, offers a wide array of scholarships to help students lower the cost of attending college. These scholarships are available to students in various programs of studies, with various academic abilities and for students with and without financial need.

Note: A completed FAFSA is required at the MCC Financial Aid office for all need-based scholarships. For students starting in Fall 2024, please complete the 24/25 FAFSA as soon as it becomes available.

General Scholarships

Board of Governors Graduating Senior

  • Full coverage of tuition and fees for up to eight quarters
  • Nebraska resident
  • High school graduate in 2023-24
  • 2.75 or higher overall high school GPA

Board of Governors Nontraditional

  • Full coverage of tuition and fees for eight quarters
  • Nebraska resident
  • Graduated high school before 2021-22

Academic Excellence

  • Full coverage of tuition and fees for eight quarters
  • Nebraska resident
  • ACT composite score of 26 or higher
  • 2.75 or higher overall high school GPA
  • ACT score must be received at MCC by March 1st, 2024

Take It Further

  • Must complete two MCC courses with a grade C or higher while in high school
    • $250 per quarter for 3 quarters: If student completes between 1 - 8.5 dual enrollment credits
    • $500 per quarter for 3 quarters: If student completes between 9 - 17.5 or more dual enrollment credits
    • $750 per quarter for 3 quarters: If student completes 18 or more dual enrollment credits

Builders of the Future

  • $1,500 total award ($500 per quarter for Fall, Winter, Spring)
  • High school graduate in 2023-24 with a 2.0 GPA
  • Participated in Builders of the Future program while in high school

Career and Technical Education

Walter Scott, Jr. Career Pathway Scholarship

  • Up to $10,000 total award over two years
  • Must be in approved program of study in Career and Technical Education or IT 
  • 2024/25 FAFSA is required to be on file at MCC, however, financial need is not required
  • Graduate high school in December 2023 or May 2024
  • US citizen or US legal permanent residence status required

Johnny Rodgers Career & Technical Education Scholarship

  • Financial need is required
  • Certificate, specialist diploma or associate degree in a vocational program at MCC
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above

Peter Kiewit Foundation Scholarship

  • Financial need is required
  • Pursuing a certificate or associate degree in a vocational program at MCC
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Student must take 9 or more credit hours per quarter
  • GPA and status must be maintained during the awarding period
  • Attend fall, winter and spring quarters for the academic year awarded

Applied Technology

Applied Technology Teaching Scholarship

  • Financial need may be considered but is not required
  • Must be enrolled or enrolling in college of Applied Technology at MCC
  • Requires cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above; GPA must be maintained during the scholarship
  • Full-time student

Auto Collision Advisory Board Scholarship

  • Financial need may be considered but is not required
  • Pursing an associate degree in Auto Collision Technology
  • Full-time Student
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5

Johnny Baxter Carriage House Foundation Tool Club Scholarship

  • Financial need may be considered but is not required
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Pursuing an associate degree in Automotive or Diesel Technology
  • To be used to purchase tools

Midwest Early Corvette Club Scholarship

  • Financial need may be considered but is not required
  • Auto Technology (AUTT) majors
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Open to both full- and part-time students

Nebraska Logistics Council Scholarship

  • Financial need may be considered but is not required
  • Full-time student
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher

Business and Human Services

Business Administration Division Scholarship

  • Requires a major in Business Administrative Division (including Legal Assistant)
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Enrolled in at least two certificate or degree related course each quarter
  • Scholastic ability and career potential strongly considered

Eric Bennett Memorial Scholarship

  • Financial need may be considered but is not required
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5
  • Pursuing a degree/major in human services

South Omaha Business Association Scholarship

  • Financial need is required
  • First-time MCC student
  • Full-time student
  • GPA 2.5 or above; must be maintained during scholarship
  • Declared major in Business Administration or Information Technology

Construction Education

Building Futures Scholarship

  • Financial need may be considered but is not required
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Full-time student
  • Pursuing an associate degree or certificate program in building and construction trades

Carl P. Rigatuso Memorial Apprenticeship Scholarship

  • Pursuing completion of an apprenticeship program
  • Enrolled full-time in an apprenticeship program (6 clock hr/week)

Culinary Arts and Horticulture

Matthew T. Chambers Horticulture Scholarship

  • Financial need may be considered but is not required
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Pursuing an associate degree in Horticulture

Audren and Evelyn Swanson Memorial Scholarship

  • Financial need is required
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Pursuing an associate degree or certificate program in Horticulture

Culinary Arts and Management Scholarship

  • Financial need may be considered but it is not required
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Pursuing a degree/major in culinary arts and management program
  • Citizenship not required, but must be living/working legally in U.S.

David/Bernie Epstein Memorial Scholarship

  • Majoring in Culinary Arts & Management
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Written recommendation required by 1 faculty or non-relative
  • Citizenship not required, but must be living/working legally in the U.S.

Dawn Wesslund Memorial Scholarship

  • Financial need may be considered but is not required
  • Majoring in Culinary Arts & Management

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Pursuing a degree/major in culinary arts and management program

Criminal Justice Faculty Scholarship

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Full-time Student
  • Pursuing a degree in the Criminal Justice Field

Gloria Menard Osborn Scholarship

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Pursuing a certificate or associate degree in one of the following: construction technology, information technology or the health careers fields

Jordan Lee Whitney Memorial Scholarship

  • Financial need may be considered but is not required
  • Preference to students who participated in home schooling
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 if student has attended high school or taken college level classes
  • Majoring in an associate degree or certificate program at MCC
  • Pursuing an Apprenticeship Program (Electrical or Plumbing), Emergency Medical Technician Certificate, or Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate
  • High school student in developmental classes or above
  • Exhibit a high degree or moral character and good citizenship as indicated in a letter of reference from a clergy member, high school teacher or counselor, or civic organization

Rex Stacy Memorial Welding Technology Scholarship

  • Financial Need may be considered, but is not required
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above which is a B
  • (No outstanding debt to the college or academic probation)
  • Only Welding Technology Associate Degree, Certificate or Occupational Specialists Programs are eligible

The Owen/PVS Scholarship

  • Must be majoring in engineering, drafting, or welding

Cox Communications Pioneer Scholarship

  • Financial need is required
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Pursuing a degree in one of the following: Business Management, Electronic Technology, Pre-Engineering, Computer Technology, Utility Line, Liberal Arts/Academic Transfer or Drafting and Design

Information Technology Scholarship

  • Pursuing a degree in the Computer Technology and E-Learning
