Michelle Nekuda

For the last 18 years, Michelle Nekuda has been a strong advocate for those with special needs in education. Combined with an interest in serving her community, Nekuda decided to pursue the District 5 seat on the Metropolitan Community College Board of Governors. Elected in 2012, and re-elected in 2016, Nekuda's term runs to 2020.

"I believe that everyone, no matter their background, deserves a well-rounded and complete education, which should include a post-secondary educational career,” Nekuda stated. “Many times, those with challenges in grade school and high school do not see an opportunity in higher education, and that should never be the case. We must do more to increase success of all students, no matter their abilities."

Nekuda has worked in human resources for more than 25 years and has served as a professor for the last five years at Columbia Southern University. She oversees the HR department at Henningsen Foods and often consults with other Henningsen Foods plants throughout Nebraska.

Nekuda belongs to many community-based organizations, such as Altrusa International of Bellevue and Women's Connection, and she has served on the Good Luck Suburban Fire District board in Sarpy County. Nekuda and her husband Jim have two sons, a foster daughter, a daughter in-law and four grandchildren.

In her free time, Nekuda enjoys reading, spending time at their Missouri lake house and volunteering for numerous community organizations.
