This scholarship was established in 2020 by Dr. Idalene Richmond Williams in memory of her mother, Eula Lee Mitchell Richmond, who passed away in 2015. Eula believed in the power of education.Even though her life circumstances prevented her from earning a high school diploma, Eula set the example for her eight children who observed her courageously pursuing her General Educational Development (GED) at the local community college later in life. When Dr. Williams was in high school, witnessing her mother’s dedication in earning her GED, was an inspiration to Dr. Williams and her siblings, Valera, Brenda, Charles Jr., Rodney, Darnell, Anthony, and Kasey, as they went on to complete their educational goals and pursue careers in education or business. The value of education was such an important part of the Richmond family that Dr. Williams and most of her siblings pursued their educational goals immediately after high school, even when presented with career options.
