Annual culinary competition to test high school students from the metro area


OMAHA, Neb. — Nearly 100 high school students representing 16 Nebraska and Iowa schools will showcase their culinary expertise at the 12th annual ICA High School Culinary Invitational, Feb. 24, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Institute for the Culinary Arts on Metropolitan Community College’s Fort Omaha Campus, 32nd and Sorensen Parkway. Teams will compete for culinary glory by preparing three-course meals and presenting them to judges. 


Students will represent the following schools: Adams Central, Bellevue East, Homeschools, Lewis Central, Louisville, Millard West, Milford, Omaha Burke, Omaha Career Center, Omaha Central, Papillion-La Vista South, Plattsmouth, Roncalli and The Career Academy.


Scholarships, gift certificates, medals and a trophy presented at an awards ceremony following the competition. The invitational is supported by MCC students, staff and faculty and by leaders in the food and hospitality industries. The event recognizes students for teamwork, excellence in culinary skills and knowledge of the industry. The event showcases the culinary arts and hospitality programs at MCC, which prepare students for careers in the food and hospitality industries.
