MCC Board of Governors member Michael Young receives The President’s
Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Award

 

OMAHA, Neb. — Metropolitan Community College Board of Governors member Michael Young is the recipient of The President’s Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Award, an annual award presented by Creighton University as part of its MLK Celebration week of events. Young will receive the award on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 6 p.m. inside the Mike and Josie Harper Center at the Hixson-Lied Auditorium on the Creighton campus, 2500 California Plaza. 

 

The award is meant for individuals who represent the ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Nominees must demonstrate qualities promoting social justice, racial harmony and civic rights with a commitment to education and the community espoused by Creighton University’s mission statement, coupled with high personal integrity. 

 

"When I ran for the seat on Metropolitan Community College Board of Governors I had three goals; improving access to education, job creation and creating a community for all people in the area,” said Young, representative from District 2. “No matter where you live, how much money you make, or even how you may look different than others, you will have the opportunity to invest in yourself at MCC. I am humbled by this award and look forward to using it as a tool to further what our community needs.”
