What is ART?
Art is a visual arts discipline in which traditional media is used in the creation of two and three dimensional artwork such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics and jewelry.
Is it for you?
Do you have a passion for the arts? Do you love to draw, paint? Do you enjoy making things with your hands as well as the computer? Do you have self-discipline, motivation and a desire to be a working artist? Wanting to explore a variety of media and art skills, in order to achieve personal creative vision is definitely an important aspect of learning about art. Once an art student completes the basic curriculum requirements, he or she may choose courses to suit their own particular interests and abilities. Students are expected to develop high-level art skills and a body of creative work based on conceptual understanding of design and effective visual communication. Art programs involve unusual dedication and an ability to set personal goals and keep to a demanding schedule. Exceptional results require time and effort beyond the scheduled class hours.
JOBS AND SALARY EXPECTATIONS
The Art Program has been designed primarily as a transfer program for students wishing to transfer into a B.A. or B.F. A. degree in a four-year college or university.
The Art Program gives students the opportunity to earn an Associate of Arts degree and is designed for students with previous art experience as well as those who are just beginning to explore their artistic interests and careers in the arts. Foundation level art classes introduce students to basic concepts of art and design, as well as provide quality studio time to develop and refine traditional and conceptual art skills. Offerings expose students to drawing, design, and a variety of two and three dimensional media as well as encouraging exploration of the computer as a contemporary art tool. The Art Program also offers a wide variety of intermediate level courses including Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics, Jewelry, Life Drawing, Printmaking and Professional Practices and portfolio Development. This program prepares the student to enter a four year Fine Arts program and currently articulates with the UNO College of Fine Arts, UNL School of Art, Art History and Design and other area four year institutions.
