WHAT IS 'MEDICATION AIDE (MDA)'?
An MDA is considered part of the interdisciplinary health care team and assists with the delivery of routine medications under direct supervision. MDAs may work in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and immediate care facilities. Other duties for an MDA may include documentation of medications and monitoring the therapeutic effects of medications delivered, as well as assisting in the care of residents in these facilities.

JOBS AND SALARY EXPECTATIONS
There are many job opportunities in the health care field for MDAs. Currently MDAs may start anywhere from $9 to $10/hour and starting pay may be as high as $13.00 per hour in some agencies.
This course is designed to prepare the student to meet the requirements of the Nebraska Medication Aide Act. The course curriculum includes information regarding medication administration, pharmacology, state rules and regulations, classification of drugs, and documentation of drug administration. The course focuses on the responsibilities of the medication aide in an assisted living facility and/or a skilled care nursing facility.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be eligible to take the written examination administered by Nebraska Health and Human Services Credentialing Division. After successful completion of the state exam and completion of the state application process, the student's name will be placed on the medication aide registry with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure, Credentialing Division.
Prerequisites for the course are: must be over 18 and, if the goal is to work in long-term care, must have a current Nebraska Certification as a Nursing Assistant.
