Career and Academic Skills Center

Standing as Nebraska's leading provider of developmental education and Omaha's leading provider for GED preparation, Metropolitan Community College has invested in new strategies for helping adults learn to read and master foundational math and technology skills. MCC has successfully launched new educational approaches for college readiness, accelerating student progress and success. As we plan to expand our facilities, it makes sense that we build on this success.

Enter MCC's Career and Academic Skills Center. The center will be the first, welcoming, productive stop on our students' successful path to higher education. Here, we will provide customized foundational education designed to meet students where they are and take them as far as they want to go. The center will focus on creating an inviting, collaborative environment that supports student engagement, learning and life success.

Proposed programming

The Career and Academic Skills Center is currently in the programming stage. Development of the programming with center around:

  • Career navigators – assessment, guidance, career development support
  • Learning communities – small groups learn together from start to finish
  • Developmental education – broken into attainable chunks
  • General education courses – taught in context of career interest area
  • Active learning – brings learning to life
