Visit Athens, birthplace of democracy and western philosophy, and see the Acropolis and Parthenon. Learn about the influence of classical Greece in the modern world, including the formation of the United States. See important Greek sites, such as Delphi, Kalambaka and Cape Sounion, where temples built in honor of Apollo and Poseidon, theaters dedicated to Dionysus and athletic contests for Zeus were created. Learn about Greek ceramics and architecture, which later would be copied by Romans, Europeans and Americans. Discuss the Peloponnesian War and hear about amazing Spartan victories. Travel by ferry to the beautiful islands of Santorini and Mykonos, sites where the earliest evidence of Greek culture exists. Come with Metropolitan Community College History and Humanities instructors in 2020 to open a “Pandora’s box” of treasures that only Greece can provide.
