Language and Literacy Center Goals

  • Provide students learning English with language tutoring and academic support services

  • Collaborate with college faculty to integrate language learner support into general education and program-area content

  • Encourage interactions among ELL and non-ELL peers, staff, and faculty to improve student engagement, learning and persistence

  • Facilitate transitions of ELLs from high school or noncredit ESL through credit ESL and developmental coursework to college-level coursework and  their career and transfer programs

  • Increase awareness among faculty of the nature of developing bilingualism and equip faculty with instructional techniques to support the learning of students who are developing academic English proficiency

Services

The Language and Literacy Center offers ESL tutoring, academic coaching, and homework and test-preparation help on a drop-in basis to MCC students who are learning English.   Our resources and services are available to ELL students at any level, whether they are enrolled in MCC's credit or non-credit ESL programs or are taking general education or program-area courses. We also consult with faculty on issues related to English language acquisition.
