Schedule your advising appointment early! Appointments may be restricted during the two weeks prior to the start of a quarter.
Common appointment activities include:
- Educational Planning
- Financial Aid Appeals
- Reviewing degree requirements
- Checking progress toward graduation
- Course substitutions
- Discussing major or other goals
- Developing a transfer plan
- Reviewing college policies and procedures
- Calculating your grade point average (GPA)
- Academic Standing
- Career Advising
What to bring to your appointment/be able to pull up online if you are a new, returning or visiting student:
- ACT Scores
- Accuplacer Scores
- High School Transcripts
- Transcripts from previous institutions attended
*If you are a new student planning to register for courses, please complete the online application before coming to your appointment.
For current students:
*ACT and Accuplacer scores are valid for two years
*You can contact MCC at 531-622-2400 to verify whether we have scores and transcripts already on file.
How to Prepare for your advising appointment:
- Think about what you want to accomplish at the meeting - have your questions written down, review your academic evaluation and education plan
- Familiarize yourself with MCC's degree options and consider a major
- Save important information and worksheets, if applicable
- Share your academic background with the advisor

Drop-In Assistance
Examples of issues appropriate for drop-in assistance include:
- Concern about a current class
- Quick questions about academic requirements
- Review of class schedule, but not long-term planning
- Campus/Resource referrals
- One-time-only withdrawals--an advisor can discuss your options and then teach you how to withdraw from a course
- College academic policies
