The Language and Literacy Center supports English language learners on their pathways to academic and career success. ESL services are available to English language learners at any level, whether they are enrolled in MCC's ESL program or are taking general education or major courses. We also consult with faculty on issues related to English language acquisition.
- English grammar, reading, writing, listening, vocabulary, presentations, conversation, and pronunciation help
- Study skills, homework, and test preparation
- Reading assistance with textbooks, research articles, and homework assignments
- College success skills, including online/remote learning skills

ESL Help with Coursework
English learners in any program can receive assistance in reading, writing, listening and speaking English. You can also get help with homework, study skills, and test preparation.
English Conversation Practice
Increase your confidence speaking and understanding English. You will also practice pronunciation and listening skills.
Reading and vocabulary learning
Work one-on-one with an instructor to learn and practice effective ways to learn new vocabulary and reading strategies for college textbooks and other materials.

Language and Literacy Center Goals
- Provide students who are learning English with language support and academic coaching services
- Collaborate with college faculty to integrate English language learner support into general education and program-area content
- Encourage interactions among English learners and peers, staff, and faculty to improve student engagement, learning and persistence
- Facilitate transitions of ELLs from high school or noncredit ESL through credit ESL and developmental coursework to college-level coursework and to their career or transfer programs
- Increase awareness of the nature of developing bilingualism and multilingualism and equip faculty with instructional techniques to support learning for students who are in the process of developing academic English proficiency
