GED Program

Who We Are

Metropolitan Community College Adult Education provides individuals with an opportunity to improve their skills on the path to a high school diploma or post-secondary education. Our goal is to open doors to better paying jobs, new careers, college classrooms and brighter futures.

The Adult Education department offers a variety of services to support your learning needs and lifestyle, which includes:

  • Read Right®, a tutor-based reading program
  • Subject-specific instruction in writing, math, social studies and science in an instructor-led learning environment
  • Self-paced study options
  • Distance learning with the hybrid I-Pathways program
  • Computer Center with access to web-based learning tutorials and staff support
  • GED Fast Track, an accelerated learning option for those that qualify
  • Transition support services and assistance navigating the GED 2014 test
  • Hands-on opportunities for increasing digital literacy skills
  • Career exploration and planning

Program Description

GED classes are offered at various locations throughout the Omaha metro area.

There is no fee for GED classes.

Students over 18 need to be a resident of Nebraska for at least 30 days and should hold a valid Nebraska ID.

Students under 18 years of age must have "permission to enroll" from the Nebraska Department of Education prior to registering for GED classes. The following items should be submitted to the Adult Education office at the MCC Express, 3002 S. 24th St., Omaha, NE 68108:

OFFICIAL GED TESTING INFORMATION

The GED® test has been updated to make sure it measures what graduating high school seniors know and what colleges and employers will expect of you.

  • Four (4) parts:
    • Science (90 minutes)
    • Social Studies (90 minutes)
    • Reasoning through Language Arts (150 minutes including a 10-minute break)
    • Mathematical Reasoning (90 minutes)
  • Offered on computer (paper available for accommodations only)
  • English and Spanish

Simply sign up for MyGED™ at ged.com and you will get information about testing policies and procedures, how to request modified testing conditions (accommodations) or you will be able to schedule right then. Log in and click on Schedule Test at the top. Once you complete the scheduling questions, you will be directed to choose your language, subject, and the day and time that works best for you to test. You can also schedule one test at a time to make sure you feel prepared every time. You can pay as you go with the GED® test. This means you can pay for each subject individually or when you are ready to test. The fee per subject is $30.
