 NEBRASKA’S OFFICIAL VETERAN’S PARADE

 
Metropolitan Community College and the Office of Military / Veterans Services is seeking volunteers to walk and represent MCC at this year’s event.
 
** Please RSVP to mccvets@mccneb.ed or at 531-MCC-4619 with your name and number of volunteers in your group.
 
Event Date: Saturday, November 5, 2016
 
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
 
Location:  Olde Towne Bellevue
 
Check In:  9:20 a.m. - Across from Saint Mary’s School – 903 West Mission Ave.  Bellevue, NE 68005 (corner of Burt Murphy Blvd. and West Mission Ave.)
 
The event typically hosts more than 100 entries including impressive participation from Offutt Air Force Base which sets the tone for a morning of patriotic pride unparalleled in the region. This is a great way to gather as a community to say thank you to our Veterans for their efforts and sacrifices.  Please come out and show your support and gratitude to our Community Veterans.
 
The viewing area for the parade begins at Jackson Street on Mission Avenue and proceeds to Franklin ending at Washington Park.
 

MCC’s Student Veterans of America spring term meeting

MCC Student Veterans of America (SVA) chapter will hold its spring meeting Friday, April 29, from noon - 1 p.m., at the South Omaha Campus, Library Meeting Room B. Direct questions to the MVS office at 531-MCC-4619.

You are  invited to attend MCC’s Student Veterans of America (SVA) winter term lunch and meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at noon, in the South Omaha Library meeting room B at the South Omaha Campus. For questions or more information, call 531-MCC-4619.
 

MCC’s Student Veterans of America fall term meeting

You are cordially invited to attend MCC’s Student Veterans of America (SVA) fall term meeting, on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at noon, South Omaha Campus in South Omaha Library Meeting Room A*. Lunch will be provided.

  • Entrepreneurship presentation by Michael Foutch (US Small Business Administration)
  • 2015 winter term scholarships and grant information
  • SVA update and information on upcoming SVA elections
  • Brief on VA changes to certification process
  • Academic advisor updates
  • Open discussion

*NOTE:  The South Omaha Library Meeting Room A is located on the South Omaha Campus. From the Connector Building go to the second floor and across the bridge to the South Omaha Public Library, Meeting Room A will be on your right.  Also, you can park in the library’s parking lot located at 2808 Q St., Omaha NE, 68107. From the parking lot, enter the library’s main entrance and Meeting Room A will be on the left.

Traditional job fair - South Omaha Campus 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Drive-thru fairs - Sarpy Center, Elkhorn Valley Campus and Fort Omaha Campuses, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Virtual fairs - Applied Technology Center, Fremont Area Center and Washington County Centers

"Hell and Back Again" Film Screening, in collaboration with Film Streams and Career Services

April 4, 2012, 7 p.m.

"Hell and Back Again" details the transition of Sergeant Nathan Harris from the battlefield in Afghanistan to his home in North Carolina.  A panel discussion followed the film, moderated by Bobby Polk. Polk is a retired Colonel in the Army Reserves, second lieutenant in the Marine Corps, and currently serves as director of MCC’s Criminal Justice program. Panelists included Matt Stevens, Student Veterans of America chapter president, MCC; Paul Greenwell, At Ease Program therapist, Lutheran Family Services; and Donna Higgins, OIF/OEF case manager, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Presentation at Instructional Staff Development Day

Faculty members were informed of the unique issues facing military students at the Instructional Staff Development Day on March 7.  The Office of Military and Veteran Support Services (MVSS) invited a series of speakers to raise awareness of military student issues and inform faculty members on military student supports.

Part of the Military and Veteran Support Services mission is to enhance MCC and the surrounding community’s appreciation and awareness of our military population. As a first step in achieving that mission, MVSS held a Day of Remembrance and Military Appreciation event Sept. 12 at the South Omaha Campus.
