Military Employment and Resource Fair

With the veteran unemployment rate well above the national average, Military and Veteran Support Services partnered with MCC Career Services,, and the U.S. Army to host a Military Employment and Resource Fair on May 17th for National Military Appreciation Month.  The goal of the event was to bring job opportunities and community support information to servicemembers and their families.

Over 800 individuals attended the traditional fair at the South Omaha Campus, while 300 chose a more convenient option by obtaining a bag of employment information through a drive-thru fair at MCC’s Fort Omaha, Sarpy, or Elkhorn locations.  At the traditional fair, LSW Strategies presented Veteran Employability Training Sessions to provide veterans with tips to maximize their military experience in the job market.  The U.S. Army provided bags to job-seekers and also displayed a vehicle showcasing a new focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).  In addition to the 40 employers with current job openings, 20 military support resources were on hand to share information.
