Screening of "Hell and Back Again"

On April 4th, 2012, MCC’s Military and Veteran Support Services (MVSS) and Career Services departments teamed up with Film Streams to show the 2012 Oscar-nominated movie Hell and Back Again. The screening was followed by a panel discussion which featured representatives from MCC, U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and the At-Ease program of Lutheran Family Services. The purpose of the event was to increase awareness amongst community members on the challenges military personnel face when re-entering society after deployment.

Prior to the screening, MCC presented two Veterans Service Awards to outstanding community members for their work within the Omaha community and dedication to our nation’s veterans. Dr. Mary J. Clinkscale was awarded for her work and leadership in honoring the Tuskegee Airmen while Dr. Bishop Nelson G. Turner was acknowledged for his endless work as the presiding Bishop of the Apostolic Pentecostal Churches Inc. as well as his extraordinary service during the Korean War.

The event received enormous participation from audience members. The theatre was at near capacity and spectators were engaged with questions and comments during the post-screening panel discussion. In addition, the panel discussion was recorded by Omaha Public Radio, KIOS 91.5 FM and will be broadcast on their noon forum in the coming months.
