ALEKS Boot Camp
What is the MCC Math Boot Camp?
MCC ALEKS Math Boot Camp (aka MATH Skill Building Program) is a non-credit, web-based math placement preparation program for certificate and degree seeking students to improve their placement in their first MCC math course or placement into an advanced mathematics course.
We encourage new incoming MCC student get a recommendation from an Enrollment Navigator or Academic Advisor to complete the 2-week boot camp after New Student Orientation (NSO). As a boot camp participant, we want to ensure you have a smart start at MCC for the math class that is right for you through successful completion of your math courses!
Do I Qualify?
Students who qualify are those who:
(1) apply to MCC and complete New Student Orientation (NSO).
(2) have an ALEKS account that is still valid and have remaining attempts to take the placement test.
(3) complete the SmartMeasure readiness assessment and review your results with an Advising Staff member(an FYE Advisor, Enrollment Navigator or Academic Advisor).
Note: all five placement tests must be completed within one year from when a student registers for an ALEKS PPL account.
What's the policy for an ALEKS math placement test account?
Students who are not exempt from math placement via ACT scores, math placement via high school transcripts or academic program math requirement may participate in the MCC Math Boot Camp to create an ALKES PPL account.
Each ALEKS PPL account is valid for one year and provides students with five opportunities to take the placement test for a better placement score (if necessary).
All five placement tests must be completed after completing ALEKS skill building exercises in-between each retake and within one year from the time a student registers for an ALEKS PPL account.
Express retesting is available without ALEKS skill building for $20 per each attempt.
What course formats are offered?
You can complete the MCC Math Boot Camp online at home with Zoom math lab for support. Once students are able to return to MCC campus locations, all proper social distancing and sanitation precautions will be followed to keep the students, faculty and staff safe while visiting the Math Center.
