Dual Enrollment

Metropolitan Community College has been offering high school students dual enrollment classes for more than 20 years. Dual enrollment allows high school students to earn both high school and college credit at the same time. Students pay half-price of the current tuition rate and may transfer their college credit to any college or university which accepts Metropolitan Community College credit. (It is the responsibility of the student to verify if the course will transfer to the receiving institution.) To learn about transferability at local 4-year colleges, please visit the articulation webpage.

Dual enrollment classes are available to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Currently a high school student
  • Follow the enrollment policies and procedures of the college (i.e., assessment testing and prerequisite course work).
  • Discuss enrollment with a parent/legal guardian and a high school official.

Metropolitan Community College has developed a variety of methods for instructional delivery:

Blended Instruction
High school and college instructors team teach students using face-to-face and online learning. Students complete approximately 50% of their instruction in an online environment.
Online Learning
Online courses* are available to students who meet the same criteria as outlined above. Students are required to abide by the same guidelines as traditional college students. School districts may or may not award high school credit to online coursework.
Traditional Instruction
A high school teacher, with a Nebraska teaching certification and a master's degree with 18 hours of graduate coursework in the area of instruction, teaches in a classroom using Metropolitan Community College's course outline. The teacher or the school district is paid to teach the college course. Alternately, a part-time instructor who meets the same qualifications, may be contracted to teach the course to students in the high school.

*To maximize opportunities for students, Metropolitan Community College may offer course conferencing and online courses to high schools with instructors who do not have a Nebraska teaching certification. Check with your high school to see if high school credit may be awarded.
