Graduation Application Process

  • A graduation application is required to finalize the completion of your program of study.
  • Graduation applications should be submitted for the quarter in which your program of study will be completed.
  • The graduation application is different than the commencement ceremony in May, which is optional.

Graduation application deadlines

Fall quarter: Nov. 1

Winter quarter: Feb. 1

Spring quarter: May 1

Summer quarter: August 1

Step 1: Review your program of study requirements.  Contact an academic advisor if there are any questions, adjustments or requirements missing, prior to beginning the application.

Step 2: Complete the application for graduation found in My Way

  • Click on the Self Service tab
  • Click on Graduation Overview
A separate application must be submitted for each degree, certificate of achievement or career certificate you are receiving. An email for each application will be sent to your Metropolitan Community College email.

Step 3: Please access your My Way account frequently for updates to your graduation application status, which will change as the quarter progresses. Official review of graduation applications will not begin until a couple of weeks after the start of the quarter for which you have applied. It takes several weeks for all applicants to be reviewed. Note: Some statuses may not change until all courses are successfully completed at the end of the quarter.

To view the status of your application:

  • Go to My Way
  • Click on Self Service
  • Click on User Options (This is found on the task bar on the left.  It is the person icon at the end of the list.)
  • Click on Required Documents

The following are status updates that you may see:

  • Under Review - indicates that your graduation application has been received by the Records Department and is being reviewed.  Approval may not be noted until after the currently enrolled courses are passed successfully.
  • Incomplete - indicates there are program challenges.  Please contact your advisor for next steps.
  • Met - Met indicates that the program requirements have been met.
  • Not Met - Not Met indicates that your graduation requirements have not been met. You will receive a letter to see an advisor.
  • Denied - indicates that your graduation application was not approved.  You will receive a letter to see an advisor.

If there is any issue with your graduation application, you will be contacted by MCC.  Your next step will be to contact your academic advisor for assistance.

NOTE: Degrees are conferred approximately 2 weeks after the end of each quarter.
 Degree confirmation dates:

  • 22/FA: 11.30.2022
  • 22/WI:  3.07.2023
  • 22/SP:  6.02.2023
  • 23/SS:  8.29.2023

  • If you are wanting to order a transcript showing your posted degree, you should either order your transcript after degrees are conferred or choose the order option that states after degree is awarded.
  • Degrees and Certificates are mailed to qualifying students approximately four to six weeks after the end of each quarter.

Step 4: Participation in the annual MCC Commencement Ceremony is optional.

  • The MCC Commencement Ceremony is held annually in May to recognize students who have graduated or will graduate during the current academic year (22 fall, 22 winter, 22 spring and 23 summer quarters).
  • Information about the ceremony can be found on the MCC Graduation Information page. The page is updated as additional details are available.
  • Caps, gowns and tassels may be purchased from Fort Omaha, South Omaha or Elkhorn Valley campus bookstores approximately one month prior to the ceremony.
