Institute for Faculty Excellence

The Institute for Faculty Excellence (IFEX) provides a variety of resources designed to support effective instruction and promote student learning. One of the major responsibilities of the IFEX team is to support all departments and programs within Academic Affairs through the functions of the Curriculum Design Studio, Faculty Development, and the Center for Learning Effectiveness, Assessment, and Research.

The IFEX team offers faculty orientation, the New Faculty Institute, the Adjunct Faculty Institute and faculty development programming, and coordinates the fall and spring opening week activities for Academic Affairs. In addition, members of the IFEX team are available to faculty for individual help with outcomes assessment, curriculum design, establishing learning communities, building faculty portfolios, and other professional development opportunities.

Creating excellent Learning experiences

In 2020 and 2021, MCC faculty and students held discussions about what characterized excellent learning experiences. The themes that emerged from these discussions form our model for excellent learning experiences that support MCC's mission to deliver relevant, student-centered education to a diverse community of learners.

IFEX Model of Excellent Learning Experiences showing qualities outlined below

Excellent learning experiences are inclusive and equitable, relevant and engaging, relational and supportive. MCC students, faculty, and staff work together to create excellent learning experiences.

Faculty Development Programming

Faculty development programs are offered throughout the year at multiple campuses and remotely via Zoom. All MCC instructors, full and part-time, are invited to participate. The faculty development stipend for part-time instructors for attendance at eligible sessions is $18 per hour.
