What is Fashion Design? (FASH)
The Fashion Design program provides students with basic design principles, entrepreneurial skills and knowledge to work as a fashion designer. The program includes a series of cooperative study opportunities to work with design professionals who are part of Omaha Fashion Week.

Fashion designers need to be imaginative, creative, artistic and visionary. They need to be self-starting, disciplined and organized with an entrepreneurial mind set. They also need to have a keen eye toward what is trending in the fashion world of today. A working knowledge of the basic principles and elements of design is necessary for the fashion designer to be successful in this competitive industry.
Career Paths and Salary Expectations
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook predicts employment of fashion designers is projected to grow three percent from 2014 to 2024. Median annual income for fashion designers in May 2015 was $63,670 (depending upon geographical location). The duties of the fashion designer can include, but are not limited to, creating and fabricating original apparel and accessories, serving as an assistant to established designers, working in retail and showing their work in local and national fashion shows.
