The Todd McHenry Memorial Scholarship was established in 1994 by family and friends to assist students majoring in the Legal Assistant program at MCC. Scholarship may be used for tuition, fees and books.
Todd Edward McHenry was born on February 7, 1970 and came to Nebraska in 1982. He graduated from Bellevue West High School and earned a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in 1993. At this time, Todd had not yet settled on what his career goals would be. The Paralegal Program was then relatively new at Metropolitan Community College, and while working as a bank teller, Todd took some courses to explore legal studies as a potential area of interest. He came to love the law and decided that he wanted to become a paralegal and, ultimately, to pursue a law degree and a career as an attorney.
Todd's dreams were not to be achieved, however, as he was killed in an automobile crash on May 21, 1994. At the time, he was near completion of his associate degree at MCC and had achieved an excellent academic record. Upon the determination of the faculty, he was awarded the Associate in Applied Science degree posthumously, with honors, on August 15, 1994.
As a way to remember and honor Todd, his family established and endowed the Todd McHenry Memorial Scholarship to support future deserving students in the Paralegal Program.
