MCC becomes first Legal Technology certificate prep provider in Nebraska

Omaha, Neb. – The Metropolitan Community College Paralegal and Legal Studies programs will begin offering the educational requirements leading to the Legal Technology certificate this fall quarter. Students who successfully complete the Laws Office Technology class will simultaneously fulfill the education requirements leading to the Legal Technology certificate.

This valuable professional credential is offered through the National Society for Legal Technology, an organization committed to the education of students and professionals who are learning essential technology that is critical to the legal workplace today.

This course is part of the MCC Paralegal and Legal Studies Programs and can be completed entirely online, giving students the opportunity to earn a degree remotely while receiving transferrable college credit and valued work skills. MCC joins a national network of 180 two- and four-year schools across the nation in providing this educational opportunity.

“This is the latest addition to the MCC Business programs focused on educational opportunities linked to professional credentials in growing career fields," said Lori Lothringer, Ph.D., MCC dean of Business. “Our faculty are future-focused on creating outstanding educational and workplace opportunities for current and prospective students.”

Andrew Sagartz, MCC director of Paralegal and Legal Studies stated, "This program initiative was designed with strong industry input to fill the technology gap for skilled legal professionals in the local workforce. This credential will set MCC graduates apart when seeking employment in the fast-growing Paralegal field where technical skills are essential.”

MCC students who successfully complete the class and earn their Legal Technology Certificate, will gain real-world knowledge of legal software that will increase their workplace marketability and productivity. This includes knowledge of software programs including:

· Clio

· NetDocuments

· TrialDirector

· iManage

Courtney Pfeiffer, paralegal professional and MCC adjunct instructor, indicated, "This is an important time to offer this practical learning experience to our students.
