GED Program at MCC provides voluntary learning opportunities to help adults build literacy and academic skills needed for employment and economic self-sufficiency. The program supports parents and families in strengthening educational and career outcomes and assists learners in earning a high school equivalency and transitioning to postsecondary education and career pathways.
Enrollment Steps:
- Attend an Adult Education information session
- Complete a pre-assessment to determine instructional level
- Enroll in and complete a three-week introductory course (Transitional Learning Community – TLC)
- Complete required Nebraska Department of Education documentation
- Participate in a Career Pathways interview
- Complete required computer and digital literacy components
- Participate in periodic CASAS assessments (every 40 instructional hours or approximately every three months)
- Attend classes regularly and maintain consistent participation
Additionally, Adult Education department offers a variety of services to support your learning needs and lifestyle, which include:
- There are no fees for GED classes.
- Subject-specific instruction in writing, math, social studies and science in an instructor-led learning environment
- Distance learning with the Aztec educational software
- Computer Center with access to web-based learning tutorials and staff support
- Accelerated GED, an accelerated learning option for those who qualify
- Hands-on opportunities to increase digital literacy skills
- Career exploration and planning
