Metropolitan Community College (MCC) will host the 34th Annual Intertribal Powwow on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 1-7 p.m. at the Fort Omaha Campus. This free, family-friendly event honors traditional Native American dance, music, artistry, oral history and food of tribes throughout Nebraska and the surrounding region, including the Omaha, Ponca, Santee Sioux and Winnebago.

This year’s powwow celebrates the theme “Keeping Traditions Alive in 2025.” it is hosted with the support of Whitmore Charitable Trust, the Douglas County Visitor’s Improvement Fund, Nebraska Cultural Endowment and the Nebraska Arts Council. The powwow provides an opportunity for cultural exchange and education, helping to preserve and celebrate the rich traditions of Native American communities.

Weather permitting, the event will be held outside on the historic parade grounds. In the event of inclement weather, it will be held inside the Center for Advanced and Emerging Technology (Building 24).

  • Emcee: Samuel J. Grant (Umónhon)
  • Head Man Dancer: Todd Ike (Umónhon)
  • Head Lady Dancer: Kari Hinman (Ponca)
  • Host Northern Drum: Oyate Eyuskinpi (Sicangu Lakota)
  • Host Southern Drum: Southern Tunez
  • Arena Director: Gabriel Barea (Umónhon)
