Metropolitan Community College will celebrate its expanding its role as a resource for local entrepreneurs with a ribbon cutting and open house at its Small Business Development Center (MCC SBDC) on Wednesday, May 6. With its federal designation by the U.S. Small Business Administration as a Small Business Development Center, MCC joins a nationwide network of nearly 1,000 centers, gaining access to resources to support local small businesses. The MCC SBDC is the second Small Business Development Center in Nebraska.

The ribbon cutting begins at 10 a.m. at MCC at The Ashton, 1106 N. 12th St. The event is free and open to the public.

Following the ribbon cutting, attendees can tour the facility and join short sessions throughout the day covering how to become an MCC SBDC client, available business education programs, funding opportunities and more. The event will conclude with networking and tours at 3 p.m.

For aspiring entrepreneurs and established business owners, the new designation expands access to free and low-cost resources designed to help businesses start, grow and thrive.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy,” said Dr. Marla Ashe, executive director of the MCC SBDC. “This center is a place where people with ideas and ambition can find the guidance, education and support they need to succeed.”

In Nebraska, small businesses make up 99% of all businesses and employ nearly half of the state’s workforce. The MCC SBDC aims to strengthen that impact by offering personalized, 1-on-1 consulting in areas like business planning, marketing, financial projections and access to capital.

Workshops and training programs are designed with flexibility in mind, allowing entrepreneurs to learn while continuing to run their businesses.

Whether you’re launching a new idea or looking to grow an existing business, the MCC SBDC is designed to be a starting point — and a support system — for the journey ahead.
