Student Success Stipends

Limited spots are available in the Student Success Stipends pilot, and eligible MCC students are encouraged to apply. Selected students may receive monthly cash payments for up to three years to help cover expenses such as rent, groceries, transportation or childcare. The pilot is a partnership between MCC and the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Guaranteed Income Research.

“When students can rely on consistent support for transportation, childcare and other basic needs, they are better able to attend class, complete their training, and move toward a family-sustaining career,” said Tammy Green, executive director of Statewide Workforce Initiatives at MCC. “The Student Success Stipends provide more than financial assistance — they give students the stability to fully participate in their education.”

Students must:

• Be at least 19 years old.
• Be enrolled in at least the third quarter of an associate degree program or in an eligible Level I or Level II certificate program with at least two months remaining.
• Not be a high school dual enrollment student or claimed as a dependent by a parent.

Eligible students who apply will be randomly selected for the study. Some participants will receive monthly stipends, while others will be placed in a comparison group and receive compensation for completing research activities.
