Great Plains Theatre Conference announces PlayFest auditions

OMAHA, Neb. — The Great Plains Theatre Conference, hosted by Metropolitan Community College, is proud to announce auditions for “Epic” written by Ellen Struve, as a part of this year’s GPTC PlayFest activities. Three auditions dates and times are arranged. Callbacks will follow.

Auditions:

Saturday, March 16, 2019: 2 p.m.; University of Nebraska at Omaha
Check-in table in the Weber Fine Arts Building; room 331, UNO Campus

Saturday, March 23, 2019: 2:30 p.m.; Omaha South High School
Check-in table in the theatre lobby (north doors on the northeast corner)

Rehearsals begin: April dates to be determined

Performance date: May 29-31, 2019

“Epic” is a world premiere play written by local, award-winning playwright Ellen Struve, and developed from ongoing story circles within the South Omaha community. Nationally-renowned director and leader in developing community-driven plays, Michael John Garcés will direct. The play has a focus on, and collaboration with, the Mayan immigrant population in partnership with Comunidad Maya Pixan Ixim, the Popol Vuh creation story, the Abstract Mindz artist collective and the South Omaha Mural Project.

PlayFest is a community performance festival held on selected evenings during the conference in various locations across are possible. The goal of PlayFest is to paint a diverse and vibrant portrait of the city, create a chance for friends and neighbors to interact, and be a catalyst for a dialogue within the community about the stories that affect our lives. PlayFest is free and open to the public.
