Media alert: NASA astronaut to be featured at MCC National STEM Day event 

What: Metropolitan Community College will host an event for National STEM Day, featuring hands-on activities for kindergarten through sixth grade students. As part of the day’s schedule, local teacher and NASA astronaut George Galdamez will speak to students while using MCC’s new Science on a Sphere, a globe measuring six feet in diameter that brings science to life. In attendance will be Howard Kennedy Elementary School and King Science and Technology Magnet Center students.

“We will be using NOAA’s Science on a Sphere for instruction as part of our National STEM Day event. Taking advantage of this fantastic resource will deepen the students’ level of STEM knowledge,” said Daphne Cook, MCC North Express Manager.

When: Friday, Nov. 8 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Galdamez will speak to students from 8-8:45 a.m.

Where: Metropolitan Community College North Express on the third floor of the Highlander Accelerator Building, 2112 N. 30th St.

Background: The MCC National STEM Day event gives students a sneak peek at the Science on a Sphere before the general public. MCC will host an open house, which will unveil the sphere formally, on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. Stay tuned for further details regarding the open house.
