Media alert: Groundbreaking for MCC expansion today at 3 p.m.

What: Metropolitan Community College will host a groundbreaking ceremony to formally announce the expansion of its South Omaha Campus. The groundbreaking will celebrate the creation of the Automotive Training Center, a $32 million dollar academic facility that will house the Automotive Technology and Auto Collision Technology programs.

When:& Today at 3 p.m.

Where: West parking lot of the South Omaha Campus, 2909 Edward Babe Gomez Ave. A reminder that the Q Street bridge is currently under construction. It’s suggested to enter off of L Street using S. 30th Street.

Background: The event begins the second phase of the campus redevelopment project. The first phase, currently underway, involves a $10.5 million dollar renovation that will create a comprehensive Veterans Center, followed by the new Center for Advanced Manufacturing. The project is funded by College funds and generous donations from the business and philanthropic community, creating a 50:50 public-private partnership.
